The study of art song, besides being an art on its own, is also the opportunity to explore characters, story telling, poetry, and the finer details of music-making. Art song transcriptions are lovingly played by instrumentalists all over the world who already have enough of their “own” repertoire to play; this can be considered a testament to the power and draw of this genre.
Dramatic voices are not always associated with the performance of Lieder, but any performing artist has the tools to capture the essence of a song and transmit it to an audience. We will be working with the top Lieder specialists in Berlin to explore this process.

The Lieder Residency will concentrate on the song repertoire of WAGNER, STRAUSS, MAHLER, WOLF, SCHUMANN and SCHUBERT. The aim is to look at the song cycles suitable for larger voices, some of which are also orchestrated.

The Lieder Residency will operate parallel to the opera academy to accept up to ten singers and five pianists. They will work with world-renowned faculty members in the framework of lessons, coachings, masterclasses and workshops.

Artists will have the option to create programs in conjunction with faculty members and give a full, half or quarter of a recital. In addition to these opportunities, they will perform in masterclasses and workshops open to the public. |

The Lieder Residency venue hosts Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau's piano.
